Podiatry and Chiropody?

As a Podiatrist, I get asked on a daily basis what the difference is between a Chiropodist and a Podiatrist.

Simply, Podiatry is the new term for Chiropody. The name was changed to Podiatry in 1993 as it’s the international recognized name for a foot specialist. As Podiatrists, we have trained at university and are qualified in all areas of foot health care.

Podiatrists do provide a nail cutting service, but are also more medically based. This includes injecting local anesthesia, nail surgery, prescribing medication, wound care and diabetic foot care. We are professionals in foot health!
